Well that was the klmc targa part 2 or devils part 2 or even the devils own targa part 2!! Whatever you want to call it it’s safe to say it was another Taylor epic.
After the targa part one I made the difficult decision to step aside from sponsoring the event we had sponsored the devils and then the targas since the beginning this maybe caused Martyn a few headaches and waking up this morning it was maybe the wrong decision on the plus side though he didn’t ring me hundreds of times!.
I would like to say a massive thankyou to the new sponsor mrtyremotorsport for coming on board as it’s not easy to find sponsors these days and it’s safe to say they have invested in a great event and a quality team! . Friday started as has become customary Martyn running late as the astra was a bit flat! After setting up 1,2and 3 we went off the set the night section up this became apparent that This was the ‘martynism’ that was going to to take the event up a notch. Saturday dawned dry with a hint of dampness duties for the day was in the set up van with the first 3 set up it was a quick run through to check nothing had moved over night ,4,5,6 were repeat runs with only a few cones to reposition. 7,8,9 and some loop changes which took a bit of time with a lot of cones needing changing.10,11,12 were reruns however we came across a car that had lost a wheel on 8 and needed recovering which caused a small delay .after test 10 it was back in to pick up as much test furniture and get everything sorted for the night section which took an age then it was up to reg1 start to start stripping it down after the closer had gone through at this point me and dad swapped seats trusting his navigation skills better than mine. As we set off there were lights on both sides of the moors looked bloody amazing. The first reg looped on and off the public road using moor tracks ,tank pads, the German villages poorer cousin oh and a forest too. We did nearly go off on a left hander looking at the tracks so did most of the crews only the french could put the vans handbrake on the wrong side . Reg 2 was on the main camp using most of the roads anyone who has do the pendragon would recognise there was much more to pick up in here and by the time we got back most people had left.thanks to those that stayed behind to pack the stuff in to the trailer, thanks to all the marshals for their help and the competitors hope you had fun. Now every year I say what the hell will martyn come up with to top that anyway on Thursday night I was buying marshal snacks at 11pm phone rings it’s Martyn already running some ideas for the future events needless to say if he pulls one of them ideas off the notch would through the roof!!!
Also looking at my watch I think I was in and out of the van 237 times yesterday don’t remember going up 237 fights of stairs! And it’s the first event where the camera stayed in the bag all day
